Our Mission

We the Anglican and United Reformed congregations at St. Mary’s Church in the heart of Banbury are committed to a journey following Jesus by;

  • Celebrating God’s love in Worship.
  • Nurturing a spiritual space.
  • Offering our resources in a spirit of loving service to the wider    community.
  • Caring for one another.
  • Challenging injustice.

The Biblical basis for this Mission Statement is as follows;

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. To comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve. To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
from Isaiah 60 1-4

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself”.
from Matthew 22, 37-39
